Installation
All version of the installation file requires Java 1.5.0 Runtime installed. If you have not got the Java 1.5 Runtime, download it here
Mac
- Double click on the Hermes-version_number.dmg to expand the Hermes disk image
- Browse to the "Applications" folder under Finder
- Drag Hermes.app into the Applications folder.
- Double clicking on Hermes.app will start the application
Windows
- Double click on the Hermes-version_number.exe
- Choose a directory to install Hermes in (if you do not want to use the default directory) and click on OK
- Wait for the installation script to store the files
- You should see a Hermes icon on your desktop
- Double clicking on this icon will start the application
Linux
- Unzip the Hermes-version_number.zip file into a directory
- To run, type in the following command:
java -jar Hermes.jar
Installing certificates
As of version 1.0rc10, the ARCS CA certificates are installed automatically
If you are using GSI authentication or Shibboleth authentication with GridFTP or SRB connections, you may need to install the certificate authority (CA) certificates. The files must be bundled up in a .tgz file. To store these certificates:
- Click on Edit → Install Certificates
- Browse to the .tgz file containing the CA certificates
This will install the certificates in ~/.globus/certificate.
Creating a connection
To create a new connection:
- Click on File → New Connection and choose one a connection type.
- Give a name in the to your connection by editing the Display Name field - this will be the name that appears in the browser window.
- Put in the host name of the server for the connection to in the Host field.
- Put in the port number of the connection in the Port field.
- Then add connection type specific information as shown below:
